Summer Camp in Jackson, Michigan

Summertime means endless adventures at ABC Academy

When school’s out, you can rely on ABC Academy to provide an extraordinary summer of fun for your child! With three age groups—junior (ages 4–5), intermediate (ages 6–8), and senior (ages 9–12)—campers will engage in age-appropriate activities. Throughout the summer, each group experiences exciting field trips, special guests, and more!

Program Highlights

Our summer program is expertly crafted under the guidance of a master-level early childhood educator to ensure happy and healthy kids!

  • Various activities allow for hands-on learning
  • Our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) curriculum gives students tools and methods to explore new and creative ways of problem-solving and innovating

Electronics just don’t compare to the rush of spending time playing outside with friends! At ABC Academy, we have countless summer activities to entertain children—no screens required.

  • A favorite is Ga-Ga Ball, a fast-paced dodgeball-style game, in which players are out if they’re hit below the knee
  • We offer exciting games like bubble soccer, where children wear inflatable bubble suits that allow them to safely bounce off other players
  • We also offer child-safe archery equipment and lessons, introducing the necessary skills to become recreational archers

Weekly field trips and special guest visitors are just two of the ways we switch up our daily routine.

  • Special guests in the past have included a traveling museum, dance instructors, robotics team, drone instructors, and science teachers
  • Some of our regular summer field trips include ziplining, rock wall climbing, and swimming at the local community pool
  • Our field trips are age-appropriate for older or younger children, so not every age will attend every trip

Endless Adventures

Some of this year’s adventures include gardening, water play, and more! In Greenhouse Academy, kids will map up a garden from the ground up, culminating in a home-grown meal at the end of the summer! We’ll also use what we grow in the garden in our very own Master Chef cooking competition! In the Splash Zone, children will enjoy splashing around, bubbles from a foam cannon, and water painting. We’ll also play a classic childhood favorite that you may have recently seen on TV: Floor is Lava!

A Typical Day

Summer days fly by because our kids are having so much fun! Throughout the day, our campers gain self-confidence as they learn new skills—not to mention, they make a ton of new friends!

The teacher welcomes children to the classroom as they arrive. Children can choose from a variety of fun activities before starting their day off right with a family-style breakfast each morning with a variety of options! The teachers then lead the group through morning yoga, followed by Greeting Time to discuss the activities and plans for the day.

The Morning Activity Period varies from day to day. The group may pack up their personal items needed for the day, heading off to enjoy a local field trip, or enjoy time with a special guest presenter. During the days spent at the center, the children will participate in any number of activities, including (but not limited to!) rope courses, archery, Gaga-Ball or Bubble Soccer competitions, arts & crafts, movie-making, science experiments, gardening, and music lessons!

Around noon, the children take a break from a morning filled with activities to re-fuel with lunch provided from home. After lunch, it’s on to the Afternoon Activity Period!

The Afternoon Activity Period is designed by each child based on their interests. There’s a huge variety of activities to choose from; sports, crafts, cooking projects, challenges, water activities, and more!

As the day comes to an end, the children enjoy an afternoon snack, prior to parent pickup. Each parent will receive an electronic parent communication report at pickup.

I enjoy sending my son to ABC Academy. He loves all his teachers and learns many new things. The staff at ABC Academy are always pleasant and always there to help.

Summer Program FAQs

What is the childcare provider to camper ratio?

The staff to camper ratio is 18:1. There are never more than 18 children in a group!

What locations offer summer camps?

Summer camp is offered at four of our locations: Lansing Ave Center, Laurence Ave Center, Jackson College, and Concord Elementary.

Who staffs the summer camp?

The summer camp is staffed by the same trained, certified teachers who teach our early childhood education programs.

Do I need to pack a lunch?

Yes! We ask that parents provide lunch for their children every day with the child’s name and date marked clearly on the bag.

Do you take the children outdoors?

Yes! Weather permitting, we take children outside daily. A lot of our most-loved activities, like ga-ga ball and bubble soccer, are outdoor activities!

How can I ensure my child will be safe?

At ABC Academy, your child’s safety is our top priority. That is why we partnered with Secured Education Consultants, a company owned and operated by former US Secret Service Agents, to help us take our safety and security to the highest level possible. Our building is secure with limited access—each family has a unique door code to unlock the front door so that we know exactly who is picking up which child. We take extreme precautions surrounding child pickup to ensure that only approved family members can pick up children after the day is over. We also mandate that our staff complete annual health and safety training and certifications. Read more about our safety protocols.
