How to Choose the Perfect Summer Camp for Your Kids

Summertime is almost here! And one dilemma a lot of parents face is choosing the perfect summer camp for their kids. Finding the best summer program can be pretty daunting considering that there are plenty of options out there. Of course, we want to make sure we’re sending our kids somewhere they’ll learn something interesting and somewhere they will develop skills they will need in the future. If you want to make sure your kids are making the most of their summer, here are some tips to help you navigate the process of choosing the perfect summer camp for them.

The first thing, what are your child’s interests. Knowing the things that interest them will help you find a summer camp they will enjoy. Is your child interested in swimming, football or other sports? Or does your child want to enhance their creativity and develop their skills in arts and crafts? It is not enough that you ask them what type of camp they want to go, find out if they are comfortable being left in the camp by themselves or if they are comfortable staying overnight.

Ask around and seek recommendations from your peers, family and friends. Ask other parents who have sent their kids to a summer camp. Check out the summer programs that match the criteria you’re looking for.

Talk to the camp directors

Before making any decisions, it’s best to talk to the camp directors first. ou can get a good sense of the things that are happening in the camp when you take time to visit and talk to the people who are running the program. Take time to interview the camp directors and ask them about the specific qualities their camp has over some other camps.  It will help would also be better if you have a list of questions ready during your visit. What sets them apart from the rest? Why should you send your child to their camp? Ask about the camp’s philosophy and focus. Learn about their staff and facilitators. Are the facilitators qualified to handle the summer camp program? Do they have adequate experience when it comes to working with kids? Are background checks done on all employees?

Consider the size of the camp

Summer camps also vary in size. Some camps can accommodate large groups while some can only handle around 10 to 20 campers. To choose the right size for your child, ask them what environment will suit them. Ask them if they will be comfortable with only a few people or if they want to be with a lot of kids.

Compare the cost and tuition

When checking summer camp programs, another important consideration is the tuition, especially when you have a specific budget set for this activity. Check the website or ask the camp director what’s included in the tuition. Does it cover the food, transportation, entrance fees and health services? Make sure to have an allowance for possible additional expenses.

Pick the camp that suits your schedule

A summer camp can also act like a daycare over the summer months. It would be helpful to choose the camp that will fit your schedule. Make sure that it doesn’t interfere with your family commitments and plans, as well as your work.

Check if that the camp is accredited

Ensure the quality of the camp by making sure it is accredited.Being accredited means that they are held to high quality standards. Ask the camp director if they have the certification from the American Camp Association.
