Michigan, through the Department of Education, provides funding for high-quality preschool programs, the Michigan School Readiness Program (MSRP). To qualify for this free program a child must meet one low income factor and one at risk factor or two at risk factors to be entitled to the funds toward your tuition.
Developmental Stages Since the preschool period is a time of so much growth and development, there is a large range of skills that a preschooler masters. A child’s growth during this period does occur in four main areas. Sensory Motor Development is the change is the way children use their muscles to move around and do things. The large muscle groups are used in walking and bending. The small muscles are used for their fine motor control. Language Development is the children’s ability to listen, understand and use words to express themselves. Social-Personal Development includes the children’s growing awareness of themselves, how they feel about children and adults, and how they play and talk to others. Cognitive Development is the preschoolers growing ability to listen, understand others and follow directions. This area also includes the way children think, reason and solve problems.
ABC Academy caregivers meet with the parents to set individual goals in each of these developmental areas for the children in their care. Throughout the day the caregiver has planned activities for the preschoolers to aide in their development and to work toward achieving these goals.
