Each child will develop in their own unique way, but their growth will occur in four main areas. Sensory Motor Development can be assessed in the way an infant changes the way it moves around, which is their large muscle development, and does things, which is their small muscle development. Language Development is the infant’s ability to listen, understand and use words. Infants will progress from crying to babbling to using a few simple words to express their needs. Social-Personal Development consists of the infants growing awareness of themselves, how they feel about others and how they play and communicate to others around them. Cognitive Development is the infants growing ability to listen and understand others around them and follow short, easy directions. How an infant thinks, reasons and problem solves are all factors used to assess their individual level of cognitive skills.
ABC Academy caregivers meet with the parents to set individual goals in each of these developmental areas for the infants in their care. Throughout the day the caregiver has planned activities to play with the babies to aide in their development and to work toward achieving these goals.
